📷Bonnie Weiss is the owner of The School of Mindful Arts, teaching meditation, art, multiculturalism, and sustainability to children ages 3-18. Her teaching background includes the whole child developmental training of being both a Waldorf and Montessori teacher. As a former educator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, she is skilled in teaching about environmental and social sciences. Bonnie’s training in teaching meditation includes being led by Tempa Dukte Lama to found the Olmo Ling Youth Sangha, the first Tibetan Bon Buddhist children’s program in the West, and coordinating children’s programming for the Buddhist Society of Pittsburgh.
Her Secular Mindfulness training includes certificates in both Mindful Schools curriculum and MBSR-T (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Teens), Awaken’s Mindful Connections for Classrooms, NVC, and Path of Freedom.
Her conference presentations in contemplative arts have included The University of Pittsburgh Mindfulness Fair (4 years), Robert Morris Educational Conference, Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children UN-Conference, Building Compassionate Learning Communities Day of Practice, MindBe Preschool Mindfulness Summit, and the STAR Summit for Magellan Health Network. Her work has been featured in Pittsburgh Parent Magazine and an upcoming documentary about the Mindfulness Movement in Pittsburgh. Bonnie is a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Mindfulness and Consciousness Studies, and the Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully.
